How It Began…

Mid-Atlantic Wood Products was owned and operated by the Tunstill family and was acquired by the Precision Materials Group of companies in December 2017. Their story, which began in 1982, has a rich history of family passion for the wood manufacturing industry, and the Precision Materials Group proudly continues that legacy today.

Past & Present…

Virginia Beach-based Mid-Atlantic began sourcing panel products from domestic & overseas mills in the early ’80s. It quickly expanded its operation and relocated to be closer to the residential case goods & furniture manufacturers that are widespread throughout Hickory and Taylorsville, NC. The industry shift and growing need to purchase designed components in addition to entire panels, was the catalyst for the move and for what we still do today.

Over the decades, the business continued to grow while adding additional machinery, shifts, employees, and buildings. As with any business, there have been economic challenges within the industry, but Mid-Atlantic Wood Products has always adapted by adding on processes and proven abilities to respond to the ever-changing business climates.

Today, Mid-Atlantic Wood Products is one of three panel processing facilities in the Precision Materials Group, with other facilities located in Taylorsville and Hickory, NC. Mid-Atlantic processes the majority of materials for CEF-Custom Educational Furnishings, a proprietary line of educational furniture for the group.

Mid-Atlantic’s wide range of services includes material sourcing, value-added engineering, a UV coating line, and much more. Their invaluable resources of knowledge and additional capacity and capabilities have provided the Precision Materials Group access to an expanded customer base that will ensure the history of Mid-Atlantic Wood Products will remain strong.
